Prof. Jolanda de Vries receives 2026 Van Loghem Award
The Dutch Society for Immunology (NVvI‑DSI) proudly awards the 2026 Van Loghem Prize to Prof. I. Jolanda M. de Vries in recognition of her outstanding scientific contributions, her exceptional mentorship, and her strong support of the Dutch immunology community. Prof. de Vries has served the NVvI-DSI as President for many years, and she is one of the founders of the ImmuneHealthXL Consortium, further underscoring her long‑standing commitment to strengthening the national and international immunology landscape. Prof. de Vries is a pioneer in translating dendritic cell biology into cancer immunotherapy. She initiated some of the first clinical trials using dendritic cell vaccines and was the first to track these migration in patients, demonstrating how administration routes critically affect treatment efficacy.
Her work has also provided key insights into antigen-specific T-cell responses and the mechanisms underlying effective anti-tumour immunity. Her interdisciplinary research integrates immunology, molecular imaging, and nanotechnology, including the development of multifunctional nanoparticles for non-invasive tracking of immune responses in patients. More recently, she has advanced preventive cancer vaccination strategies for individuals with hereditary cancer risk, such as Lynch syndrome.
Serving as Chair of Medical BioSciences at Radboudumc, Prof. de Vries is an inspiring leader and mentor who has supported and trained many young immunologists on their path to successful careers. Her achievements have been honored with prestigious awards including VIDI, VICI, the Aspasia Award, and the Huibregtsen Prize. In view of these outstanding scientific contributions to the field of immunology, she will give the Van Loghem Lecture at the NVvI-DSI annual meeting 2026. The board of the NVvI-DSI warmly congratulates Prof. de Vries on this well-deserved recognition!
